Vision

Aside from fashion design I am also passionate about studying different art mediums and techniques. I feel that my experiments with mixed media has helped refine my ways in translating my fashion design ideas more expressively onto paper. I enjoy photographing and sketching people in motion in casual settings. Through this hobby I have gained much knowledge about anatomy, which additionally contributed to my understanding of how to design and construct a garment for the best fit and movement.
Meet Chili, my neighbor's dog! I snapped a photo of him while at the park and had a good conversation with the owner.  I sketched him on a brick porch that I completely made up and added a shot of blue in the back with some imaginary dog door! It was a great learning experience, entering it into the dog show. I wish it were "Chili in the Summer" in Texas...it's too hot!!!!!

I never named this one, but today I think I'll call her "Delilah". It just sounds like a perfect name for this female horse. There isn't a particular story behind this imagine, but the photo was taken by me in Texas at a random ranch that we crossed on our way to college station. Something about that girl horse and her gaze really makes this picture breathe. I think I need to work out my composition though...and lighting...definitely lighting!
All in all - this was a great time painting her and her boyfriend :3

Fashion Design Snippet

Magmatic Child (4-6x Children's wear collection with 12 looks) by JJL

Silhouette Inspiration

Spring looks inspired by volcano eruptions that occur due to high heat pressure from earth plate collisions. Lava cools and a new surface is created with ripples of rock mixtures and various minerals. The Magmatic Child likewise is blazing and bold.---I was very inspired by woman's wear and the concept of growth and expansion. I took on more sophisticated designs for children's wear, gearing towards more of what higher end brands would do. It was a fun experiment :)
I used neutral tones and added pops of blue and red to keep it very minimalistic. I manipulated some of the printed fabrics by painting them. These are a mix of light weight knits and wovens for the spring season.
